Performs a combination of Gas tungsten arc welding, GTAW and/or TIG welding on aircraft parts. Processes to fabricate or repair parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys.
§ Determines and installs applicable welding materials based upon parent metal properties
§ Strikes (forms) arc to melt line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle
§ Performs minor repair operations, including helicoil installation, flushing, grit blasting, vapor degreasing, repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes, chipping off excess weld, slag and spatter, etc., utilizing basic machining equipment
§ Prepares broken parts for welding by prepping surfaces per standard practices
§ Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace
§ Positions and clamps work piece together to assemble them in jig or fixture
§ Tacks assemblies together
§ Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal
§ Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions
§ Examines weld for bead size and other specifications
§ Continuously pursues lean initiative toward process improvements
§ Maintains minimum 80% billable efficiency
§ Maintains a safe and audit-ready work area
§ Performs initial planning on SRO according to customer specifications, OEM manual requirements, service bulletins, DER repairs and other applicable work instructions in the Technical Library
§ Provides training to other welders on various procedures
§ Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
§ Thorough knowledge of:
o Microsoft Office Basics
o ASW D17.1
§ Skill to:
o Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
o Read standard gauges and other measuring devices
o Operate basic machining equipment
o Learn industry-related software
§ Minimum certification to include Material Groups IIa (stainless steel), IV (aluminum), V (magnesium), 4130 (Steel) and Inconel
§ Obtain respiratory certification and wear a face respirator
§ Successfully pass annual regulatory vision requirements
Must successfully complete Chromium Physical
