SUMMARY

The WASS program offers a dynamic environment of collaboration, fun, and Safety Always! We are seeking an Aviation Safety Manager to be responsible for the development, operation, and continuous improvement of the safety management system at the DOS Air Wing's BDSC. Reporting to the site manager, with a dotted line to the CONUS Safety Director, the Aviation Safety Manager will be responsible for various pilot duties, i dentifying and monitoring safety and environmental hazards and risks, and promoting the reduction or elimination of potentially hazardous conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete FW aircraft, DHC-8, initial-refresher qualification training as required or RW aircraft, H-60, refresher qualification training. If completing FW qualification training, travel to Iraq to complete in-country DHC-8 PI qualification training. If completing RW refresher training, PI training will continue in Florida until qualified.

  • When assigned flight duties, assist in planning and execution of flight assignments as directed by the PC.

  • Assist in tracking and logging of aircraft flight time and the filing and closing of flight plans and preparation of flight and duty time records.

  • Coordinate all safety-related activities within the requirements of the safety program with respect to mission requirements and the U.S. Government directives to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Report and investigate aircraft, ground safety, and environmental accidents to determine the cause of the accident and formulate recommendations to help prevent similar mishaps in the future.

  • Ensure proper industrial safety procedures are followed in accordance with the contract and appropriate Federal, state, and local regulations, rules, and procedures.

  • Develop required reports, conduct briefings, safety training, and when directed conduct quarterly safety and semiannual safety stand down meetings.

  • Conduct safety audits and inspections of safety-related equipment as needed.

  • Perform duties as an active member of an aircraft accident board, when needed.

  • Coordinate first responder duties during an on-site accident, when needed.

  • Ensure proper flight equipment is aboard.

  • Accomplish the FW-RW aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.

  • Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo and passengers.

  • Confirm the FW-RW aircraft weight and balance is within prescribed limits.

  • Assist PC in ensuring passenger safety and assuring ramp security is maintained while passengers are boarding or disembarking.

  • Accept responsibility for functions as delegated by the aircraft PC.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued clearance

  • Perform other safety and flight/pilot related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Aviation Safety Officer-Manager, risk management and mitigation.

  • Associates Degree in a related field or educational equivalent.

  • Must be an FAA commercial Instrument rated Fixed Wing or Rotary Wing pilot.

  • Formal training in OSHA, EPA, and hazardous waste storage and handling and disposal procedures.

  • Graduate from a DOD Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation or FAA, NTSB or accredited university training containing Aviation Law, Human Factors, Aviation Safety Program Management, Risk Mitigation, and Aircraft Accident Investigator courses.

  • For FW, FAA Commercial Pilots License Instrument, with at least 1,500 hours of in-aircraft flight time, 500 hours of turbine multi-engine time, minimum 250 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command time.

  • For RW, FAA Commercial Pilots License Instrument, with at least 1,500 hours of in-aircraft flight time, 500 hours of turbine engine time, previous qualification in the H-60 aircraft RW, must be Night Vision Goggle NVG qualified and have 300 hours of NVG experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • FAA CFI-CFII-MEI

  • FAA ATP rating

  • Understanding of aviation related quality assurance programs.

  • Prior military pilot and or pilot support on the DoS INLA program.

  • Prior military standardization pilot or civilian equivalent.

  • Qualification in assigned aircraft before or incident to assignment.

  • OSHA, EPA, HAZMAT, HAZWASTE, HAZWOPER experience.

  • Qualification in the DHC-8 FW

  • Active DoD security clearance
